What treatment for which blister ?
The best treatment of the blister is classically to leave the skin, applied a bandage to the zone « put in lively », having drilled the blister and having injected inside an antiseptic (typify eosin); this way of proceeding is very useful for a classic, isolated Marathon, or for races of 2 or 3 days, or still when the unstickings do not take too important proportions.
When feet are put in very hard event, on races of week either more, with very difficult climatic conditions, or when the hygiene cannot be current : Difficulty washing himself feet regularly, or changing socks), we see appearing hurts which may become infected extremely quickly, if they are not « put in flat ».
The sand, or the dust, will come to insinuate itself into the leaky light bulb and to constitute quickly an infection localized, painful and more difficult to treat that a simple blister that we would have been able to excise (remove the skin) and cover with a double skin, having let it dry, during the night for example. As often in medicine, everything is a question of tact and measure: it is not necessary, naturally to estimate the knowledge which the runner can have of this type of problems, which he meets frequently; the Marathon of Sands is however an extreme event for the whole body, and also (and especially!) for feet, which can reserve many surprises, even to the most hardened runners.
It is necessary to know how to also adapt itself to the type of event, to the duration of remaining race, to the pains and to the embarrassment that are going to engender such or such treatment.
The experience and the availability of the medical teams is essential in this domain, so much the classic blister can become sometimes very crippling hurts. |
